HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound)

What is HIFU ( (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) For Skin Rejuvenation?

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production. This non-invasive treatment can help to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.

HIFU is a relatively new cosmetic treatment for skin tightening that some consider a non-invasive and painless replacement for facelifts. The ultrasound energy causes the tissue to heat up rapidly. Once the cells in the targeted area reach a specific temperature, they experience cellular damage. While this may seem counterintuitive, the damage stimulates the cells to produce more collagen — a protein that provides structure to the skin — the increase in collagen results in tighter, firmer skin with fewer wrinkles. Since the high-frequency ultrasound beams are focused on a specific tissue site below the skin’s surface, there’s no damage to the upper layers of the skin and adjacent tissue.

This treatment may not be appropriate for everyone. The procedure generally works best on people older than 30 with mild-to-moderate skin laxity. People with photo-damaged skin or a high degree of loose skin may need several treatments before seeing results. Older people with more extensive photo-aging, severe skin laxity, or very saggy skin on the neck aren’t good candidates and may need surgery.

HIFU is not recommended for people with infections, open skin lesions in the target area, severe or cystic acne, or metallic implants in the treatment area or during pregnancy.

HIFU FAQs

Is HIFU non-surgical skin tightening and facelift safe for me?

HIFU works to tighten the muscles that can lift jowls. HIFU is designed for more mature skin however can also be suitable for younger skin types. We recommend a visit to see us for a consultation with our trained specialist to determine if this treatment is proper for you.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments required depends on your age, skin quality, and health. HIFU is a fantastic new technology that can deliver results in as little as one session.

What results will I expect to see after my treatment?

Immediately after your treatment, you may notice that your skin is firmer, and its texture is lifted. It can take up to 4-6 weeks and even three months for the full effect of the treatment to kick in, and you will see a dramatic improvement in your facial contouring and a visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

We found a good video on YouTube that explains how many HIFU treatments you need to see a result, how long it takes to see the results, and how long the effects last: https://youtu.be/49a-4IaqvFQ.

How long do I wait before I can have another HIFU treatment?

It would be best if you waited 4 to 12 weeks between treatments to allow the HIFU facial rejuvenation and lift to effect fully.

Can I combine HIFU with injectables (Botox and fillers)?

Yes, you can, but we recommend you speak with our specialist before booking additional treatments with HIFU to follow the correct protocol and waiting periods between treatments.

HIFU Regulations

HIFU or High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound has been used for decades to treat severe medical issues like prostate cancer. More recently, however, it has been approved by the FDA for brow lifts & minimizing lines and wrinkles around the neck and décolletage. The use of HIFU to perform overall facial tightening, lifting & body contouring has not yet been approved by the FDA. There are no HIFU-specific regulations for technicians performing in the US as it is very new to the cosmetic industry. And, as always, regulations take a bit of time to catch up with technology.

How much do HIFU treatments cost?

Prices for HIFU treatments will depend on the area we’re targeting as well as the skin’s current condition. If you’d like more specific information, feel free to book a consultation.

HIFU as Permanent Fat Loss Treatment and Cellulite Removal

HIFU for fat reduction uses heat. It destroys the fat cells in a specific target area like the stomach or the thighs. If you want to combine fat reduction and muscle-building results, please check out the EMS  (Electromagnetic Sculpt) + 360 Cryolipolysis treatments.

HIFU for tightening boosts collagen and elastin growth for tighter and firmer skin.

PROS OF HIFU FACIAL TREATMENT

  • No damage to the upper layers of the skin
  • Non-invasive treatment; no incision, needles, or scarring.
  • No downtime. You can return to your daily life right after your treatment which is a massive appeal to many.
  • Right after your treatment, you will see some results. But for the maximum results, it usually takes up to 3 months.
  • Some of our clients choose HIFU because the treatment results improve. Plus, the added advantage of not having to explain they’ve had any procedures done.
  • HIFU facial treatment is significantly cheaper than any surgical facelift.
  • It contours your face and promotes your skin to fight aging. It also renews the skin texture: the skin blemishes, large pores, acne, and pimples.
  • As Hifu facial treatment mainly activates your skin’s natural process, it provides an overall renewal and anti-aging.
  • It naturally wakes up your skin/body to work and produces collagen, acting like it was 20 years younger.

CONS OF HIFU FACIAL TREATMENT

  • Hifu promotes skin regeneration rather than filling under the surface for a more plump look or getting rid of the extra skin with surgery. As it is a way to promote the skin’s natural process, the results depend on your skin’s nature and ability to regenerate by itself. Hence results may vary from person to person. *Surgery results are more specific.
  • Some people may experience slight swelling and redness right after treatment, which usually disappears quickly. The treatment area may also feel slightly sensitive for a week.
  • HIFU is most suitable for mild to moderate skin laxity.
  • HIFU facial treatment effects usually continue for around 12 months. After this period, you may require repeated treatments to maintain the best results.
  • Contraindications for HIFU: metal implants, blood disorders, silicone injections

PRE AND POST HIFU SKIN TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

PRE HIFU SKIN TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

👉Avoid sun exposure and sunless tanning. Sunburned or tanned skin will not be treated.

👉 All skin irritants must be stopped (glycolic/ salicylic acids, benzoyl peroxide, retinol products such as Retin-A, Tazorac, Triluma, Differin, and Vitamin C serum) on the area being treated three days before treatment.

👉 Let us know if you are taking antibiotics. Certain antibiotics (Tetracycline, Doxycycline) can make a patient photosensitive; therefore, treatment may not be able to be done until two weeks after completion of the antibiotic.

A day before treatment:

👉 Please let us know if you have a history of cold sores/fever blisters before treatment so that antiviral medication can be prescribed. Treatment cannot be done if you have an active cold sore or skin infection and will be rescheduled.

Treatment Day:

👉 You can take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil), a couple of hours before HIFU treatment. You may experience slight discomfort during a HIFU procedure. Some people describe it as tiny electric pulses or a light prickly sensation.
